|||A cocktail ring is an overly large ring that is mainly worn at cocktail parties. These rings were popularized in the 1920's and 30's. Common lore has it that when drinking and cocktail parties were not legal, flashy rings made a statement similar to "Yes, I am at a party. I'm drinking. I'm fabulous. What are you going to do about it?" The lady was was doing it in style! Sure, the glam cocktail parties of the Prohibition era are less popular now among the majority of the population, but unusual cocktail rings are still very popular for dressy or formal occasions such as weddings, film premieres,Canada Goose Trillium Parka, award shows, and that occasional throw-back party.
So, what makes a ring a "cocktail ring"? Early on the trend was to use expensive stones in the rings such as diamonds. Today, most cocktail rings incorporate faux, or "imitation", stones (such as cubic zirconium, or CZ). Precious stones put the cost of cocktail rings out of the reach of most consumers, which is why "costume" jewelry is more common. A good costume ring (one that can at least look expensive) is acceptable for occasions. Another, although smaller, reason that imitation stones are replacing precious stones in these popular rings is to reduce the likelihood (and pain) of theft. A ring with a fake stone that has been lost or stolen will not traumatize you the way the loss of an expensive/valuable family heirloom might. Some precious stone reproductions are crafted so well, that an untrained eye wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a genuine stone and and "a fake."
Cheap cocktail rings might range from $20 to $50. Some of the more expensive costume cocktail rings will range from about $200 to $500. These rings will often be made with real gold in the band. Cocktail rings with real stones can range anywhere from a few thousand dollars to $100,000 (or more - imagine what celebrities will spend their money on and you can probably imagine how high the range can be). The high-end rings,Canada Goose Jackets, worn by the stars to red carpet events, can even cost millions of dollars.
Even though real stones were used back in the 20's & 30's,Canada Goose Jackets, the center, larger stone was usually something less expensive like amethysts, garnets, topaz, etc. This practice is seen everywhere in the jewelry world today as well. As a general rule of thumb,Canada Goose, the center stone on a cocktail ring needs to be about three carats. Using a less expensive stone will allow for the overall size of the ring to be bigger (even chunky), thus making a bigger impression or statement about how you are feeling that particular occasion. The general rule of a cocktail ring is, "the bigger the better." Cocktail rings are intended to catch someone's eye and dazzle the crowd. Even to the point of being "gaudy" or "overdone." Size and sizzle are where cocktail rings and any other ring will differ. Rings such as an engagement ring,Canada Goose Citadel Parka, wedding band, or just a decorative accessory do not always have to be big and flashy.
Another significant difference between cocktail rings and other rings is that the cocktail ring should not be worn on the ring finger on the left hand (that spot is reserved for engagement and wedding rings). The right hand, ring finger is often where women wear cocktail rings. But, I'd say that going along the lines of "flash, sizzle, dazzle, and personality", where them on other fingers too, and maybe even wear multiple cocktail rings at the same time!|||Some of these videos are made by companies for commercial use, but some of these videos are from real people who love cocktail tings and enjoy showing them off.
