In the 18th Century, the slaves that worked in the cotton plantations started wearing jean made from cotton. And in the 19th century, the Gold Rush Miners saw the label "Levi" become popular on the jeans they were wearing.

In the 1920s, the British military started wearing T-shirts.
By the 1940s, the U.S. military started wearing T-shirts.

People should wear whatever they want to wear, or wear nothing at all, if you choose. One was not born with clothes on, and maybe it's hot out.

Now...

The skirt is one of the oldest pieces of clothing for humans. Men/Muchachos wore skirts more than women/muchachas up until the 18th Century, at which time women/muchachas started wearing more skirts than guys/muchachos. By the 1960s, skirts became very short and---as you probably know---they were called mini skirts. Today, mini skirts are mostly worn by cheerleaders at sports events.

Sneakers were very popular (especially with children) in the late 1950s, so much so that the manufacturers of leather shoes claimed that "sneakers are bad for children's feet." Well, they (the sneakers' manufacturers) weren't about to put up with that, so they protested/responded by saying that "sneakers cure the syndrome of Inhibited feet."
